The city example is your own capital

The city example is your own capital

The line that asks for your city offered New York as the example, whoever you were and whatever country you had just given it. It offers your own capital now — Prague if you said Czechia, Tokyo if you said Japan.

Cities that could not be found

Some cities could not be found at all. Oslo, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and a long tail of others came back with nothing however you spelled them, and Managua came back as a town in Cuba. They are all there now, and what comes back is written in letters you can type: Usti nad Labem rather than Ústí nad Labem.

A Russian city in the country line

The country line takes a Russian city too. Write Брянск where the country is asked for and Russia arrives with the city already filled in. Write a city outside Russia in Russian letters and it tells you which alphabet to use, instead of telling you nothing was found.

The figure stands on a colour

In the feed, the small figure on the line above a manuscript stands on a spot of colour now — pink or blue. You can tell at a glance who you are reading.

The card opens on the code alone

The card opens on the code alone

Your card opens with nothing on it but the code — the screen you hand across a table, arriving the way you want it. Press the code and the back arrow, Share and Save return. Press it again and they are gone.

Drag a block aside to send it

Animated
Drag a block aside to send it

Drag a paragraph to the left in your manuscript and it slides aside, uncovering a small red circle at the edge of the page. Let go there and it waits, open, until you press the circle or push the block back. Pull further instead and the circle fills — letting go then sends the block on its way. Anything you have written is asked about first: delete or keep, the same question that has always come with removing a line. An empty block goes without asking, while headings and drawings answer to the same drag.

The keyboard goes down with the block

Hold a block to carry it somewhere else and the keyboard goes down with it now, taking with it the lens the phone raises over the line under your finger.

It comes up from the bottom now

It comes up from the bottom now

End a conversation, report a passage, write to the team — what opens to take your answer comes up from the bottom of the screen now, the way everything else that asks you something does. It used to hang in the middle, touching no edge at all, which reads as a notice rather than as a place to answer. On a wide screen it is one width with every other thing that opens there, the same column the page you are reading stands in. Each of them used to pick its own. Its colour came from the dimmed page behind it too, so it stayed dark while everything around it was light. Now it takes the colour of the screen it belongs to.

Thirty manuscripts a day

Thirty manuscripts a day now, where a free day used to hold three. The three came back one at a time, each at the hour you had spent it, so the reading never quite refilled and never quite closed. The thirty arrive together, at midnight. Read to the end of them and the screen that meets you says how long the wait is — there is no rush, and nobody you passed on is going anywhere.

Five stars without a note

Five stars without a note

The last screen before you sign up asks how it went, in stars. Five of them used to want words as well, which was a strange thing to ask for when you had filled in a form and seen nothing else yet. Now five stars ask for nothing — the score is kept, and the question comes back on your way out of a chat, once there is something to say. Anything under five asks what could be better, and those words go to the improvements board with your score, where you can follow what happens to them.

The delete screen asks why

The delete screen asks why

The last screen anyone wants sits under Danger zone, at the bottom of everything else. It asks you to type your own address before it will delete the account, and now there is one line above that one, asking what made you leave. A sentence is enough. Whatever you put there, the account goes when you say it goes.
